Jerry Ray Hurlbutt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Mishawaka, Indiana. Born in Niles, Michigan, on July 9, 1947, he lived a life marked by quiet strength, integrity, and deep devotion to those he loved.
He was the beloved husband of Linda (Cortright) Hurlbutt, with whom he shared a loving marriage since their wedding on November 8, 1969, in San Antonio, Texas. A devoted son of the late Melvin and Eunice (Tuesley) Hurlbutt, Jerry is survived by his children, Kim (Chad) Poole and Jason (Christine) Hurlbutt; his grandchildren, Owen, Lainey, Braiden, and Avery; and his brother, Bruce Hurlbutt.
An honorable Air Force veteran, Jerry later built a respected career at Cook Nuclear Plant, where his reliability, hard work, and warm nature earned the admiration of his colleagues. He found great joy in the outdoors, especially fishing at Magician Lake in Sister Lakes, Michigan, a place that brought him peace and became a cherished setting for creating memories with his children and grandchildren. He was also a dedicated supporter of Notre Dame sports and took special pride in attending his grandchildren’s games, offering his unwavering encouragement and love.
Jerry’s life was one of purpose and joy, defined by the strong connections he made and the shared moments that will forever resonate with his family and friends.
