February 12, 1936— March 8, 2026
Dover, OH
Jerry Marlowe, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on March 8, 2025, following a period of declining health. He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday with a few sips of champagne, surrounded by his family. Born on February 12, 1935, he was the son of the late William McKinley Marlowe, founding pharmacist of Marlowe’s Drugstore in the 1930s, and Fannie Leona (Stratton).
Jerry graduated from Dover High School in 1954 and earned his degree from The Ohio State University School of Pharmacy, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He began his pharmacy career in 1961, working alongside his brother, Dave, in the family business. A working pharmacist for more than 57 years, he later founded Marlowe’s Home Health Care, which served nursing homes across the state. After selling the business, he continued as a compounding pharmacist at Marlowe’s Compounding in Dover until his retirement.
Known for his warmth, kindness, and larger-than-life personality, Jerry was remembered for his wild hats, theatrical antics at Ohio State-Michigan games, and his deep love of the stage and gourmet cooking. He performed for many years with The Little Theatre, taught popular “Wild in the Kitchen” cooking classes, and prepared dishes for Culinary Capers to benefit Hospice. His culinary adventures were featured in numerous publications, local television programs, and even a YouTube video titled “The Cod Father.” He remained active in his community as a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Dover Rotary Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Dover Historical Society, and the Ohio State University School of Pharmacy Board of Governors. He also served on the board of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic and supported many charitable causes.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 69 years, the former Mary Wilhelmina Witsberger (Willi), and their daughters, Chris (Henry) Kalouche of Gahanna, Kathy Basiletti of Dover, and Jan (Jeff) Bryan of Dover; grandchildren Ethan Bryan (companion Cassandra) of Dover, Sidney Kalouche of San Francisco, Gabrielle Kalouche of Seattle, Harry Bryan of Dover, Simone Basiletti of Dover, Nora Bryan of Dover, and Arthur Bryan of Dover; great-granddaughter Maggie Bryan of Dover; a cousin, John Stratton; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Reese.
