Jerry Birchfield ObituaryVisit the Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes - Downtown Chapel website to view the full obituary.Jerry Kenneth Birchfield, husband of the late Jacalwyn "Jackie" Birchfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at age 87.Born and raised in Anniston, AL, he was the son of the late William Clayton and Daisy Kidd Birchfield. After graduating from Sewanee, University of the South, in Tennessee, he served four years as an officer in the United States Navy, where he toured the Mediterranean and Arabian Seas. He retired from Abbott Laboratories after 33 of years of service as a pharmaceutical sales representative.A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jerry loved his family and served his community all his life. He was a member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson, SC. Prior to that, he and Jackie were active members of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC for 42 years, and of Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity, SC for 14 years. One of their favorite pastimes was visiting Surfside Beach with family. Jerry was also an active member of the North Lake Sertoma Club in Columbia for 40 years, serving as President.He is survived by his four children, Catherine Stoddard, Bromley Birchfield (Pam), Stan Birchfield (MeMe), Ken Birchfield (Denise). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, his sister, Ann Winship Pearce (Ernie), and his sister-in-law, Paula Hoover. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, William Clayton Jr., and his son-in-law, Wesley Scott Stoddard.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown Greenville, SC. The funeral will be on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel.
