Jerry Little ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Kahlert Funeral & Cremations - Maysville on Mar. 10, 2026.Jerry Herbert Little, 73, passed away on March 4, 2026. A man of quiet strength and a deep love for the open water, Jerry's life was defined by his early athletic achievements, a dedicated career, and his family and friends.Born on April 4, 1952, in Hayward, California, Jerry was raised in Grifton, North Carolina, a small town with kids on bikes, kick-the-can games throughout the summer, and doors unlocked at night, common to that part of the south at that time. It was there he grew up, making a name for himself as a standout high school athlete-a testament to the drive and capability that would follow him into his professional life.Jerry spent his career at E.I. DuPont, where he began as a machine operator. His natural leadership and work ethic were quickly recognized, and he rose through the ranks into management. Upon his early retirement, Jerry traded the corporate world for the maritime life. As a "boat person," Jerry became an experienced boat captain and was in his element on the deck of his Marine Trader, aptly named 'Tis Time. For many years, Jerry navigated the intracoastal waterway and lived on his boat in the Florida Keys, coastal Wilmington, and the Trent and Neuse rivers in New Bern. Sometimes his daughter, Crystal, joined him to share in the sea life. Jerry immersed himself in the quiet joy of fishing and would often send photos of the early morning sun rising over the water.Though life's journeys can be complex, Jerry carried a profound devotion to his family. He is survived by his daughter, Crystal Little, and his granddaughter, Lilith. While time and distance may have separated them, they remained the light of his life and were never far from his heart.Jerry is also survived by his siblings: Rich Little; Godfrey Little and his wife, Beth; Jeanenne Nelson and her husband, Rob (a lifelong friend and classmate of Jerry's); Holly Fuller and her husband, Steven; and Ed Owens and his wife, Johanna. He is also survived by his former wife and steady friend, June Little. He leaves behind a generation of nieces and nephews who will remember his unique spirit: Tonya Little, Eric Nelson, Lucas Nelson, Laura Fuller, Jared Fuller, Sarah Little, Edward Owens III, Alison Owens, and Grace Owens. He was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Jeanenne and Ed Owens, and his father, Godfrey (Bud) Little.A favorite photograph shows Jerry happily on the deck of 'Tis Time.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
