Jerry Franklin Ward, affectionately known as “Fat Man” and “Peter,” of Perry, Florida, passed away on March 11, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on August 2, 1951, in Perry, Jerry lived a life rooted in hard work, family, and a deep love for the Taylor County community he called home.
A dedicated business owner, Jerry operated a lawn service company that reflected his commitment to caring for his neighbors and beautifying the places he cherished. He found great joy in the outdoors, spending many peaceful days fishing and hunting in the woods of Taylor County, where he felt most connected to the land and to the simple pleasures of life.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Ward and Maude Ward, and his brother, Tommy Ward “Man.” He is survived by his sisters, Martha Bethea (Sutter), Ellen “Pumpkin” Coxwell (Jimmy), and Alice “Dump” Winstead (Mike); his significant other of 55 years, Ann Wheelus; his sons, Jerry Ward (Susan), John Ward (Wendy), and Peter Ward (Heather); his grandson and son TomTom Ward (Crystal “Butterbean”); six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and his devoted caretaker, Kattee Parker. Those who knew him will remember his kind heart, his steadfast dedication to family and friends, and the laughter he so freely shared.
