Portland, MI
Jerry Edward Bellant, 58, of Portland, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born on July 24, 1967, in St. John’s, Michigan, he was the son of Richard and Judith Bellant. Jerry grew up in Lansing, graduated from Eastern High School in 1985, and attended Lansing Community College. He worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and took great pride in his heritage as a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He found deep comfort in praying the rosary and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the lotto and bingo, watching movies with a bucket of buttery popcorn, and spending time at the Portland District Library, where he was always eager to show off his membership card.
Above all, Jerry cherished his lifelong bond with his twin sister, Mary. From birth, the two shared an inseparable connection, celebrating every birthday together and enjoying countless dinners and movie nights. Jerry often referred to Mary as his better half, proudly introducing her as “his twin” before joking that they were not identical. His kind heart and unwavering loyalty touched everyone who knew him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Jarret Paul. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Judith; his siblings, Richard II (Cindy), Dicksie (Warren) Hengesbach, and his beloved twin, Mary Jane (Lou) Hengesbach; his faithful dogs, Ollie and Stewie; his godchild, Cassie Bellant; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. His family remains deeply grateful for the support of friends and caring neighbors throughout his life.
