Jerry Dell Thompson, 87, of Glen Arm, Maryland, passed away on March 11, 2026. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Delmar Henry Thompson and Wilda Jeanette (Purdy) Thompson.
Jerry shared nearly 63 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sally Ann Thompson. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his life was centered around his faith, family, and service to others. He served as a minister for more than 40 years, faithfully guiding and encouraging those in his community. In addition to his ministry, Jerry worked as a scientist for the United States Government at the Naval Weapons Laboratory in Dahlgren, Virginia, and at the Edgewood Arsenal of Aberdeen Proving Ground.
He found great joy in the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing, and searching for paw-paw and persimmon fruit in the woods. He also delighted in building and flying remote-control model airplanes.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sally Thompson; his children, Lauren (Thompson) Glass and Gregory (Shari) Thompson; his grandchildren, Amber (Matt) Howe, Wesley (Kaitlyn) Thompson, Ryan (Amber Edwards) Thompson, and Andrew (Haleigh) Thompson; and his great-grandchildren, Lucas Thompson, Benjamin Thompson, Claire Howe, and Reese Thompson.
