He was 86.Jerry was born on December 16, 1939, in Portland, Oregon, to Jean and Henry Guse. He attended Wilson High in Portland, Oregon and earned a BS in Business Administration from Portland State University. He was employed for thirty years as a budget analyst for the U.S. Forest Service.For the past 50 years Jerry lived in Yreka, California. His kindness, athleticism, and gentle good humor will be sorely missed by his family and a very large circle of friends who were all certain he would outlive them. Jerry was active in the YMCA, Dodge Range (Yreka Rifle Club), Shasta Valley Pickle Ball, The Elks Club, and Fairchild Hospital Auxiliary.Jerry was a life-long motorcycling enthusiast who toured throughout the Western U.S. and Canada with family and friends. He was an avid runner for much of his life, competing in many marathons and ultra-marathons including the notorious Western States 100, earning silver belt buckles that he often wore proudly.Most recently, Jerry was instrumental in introducing pickleball to the Yreka/Montague area and he enjoyed playing the sport several times a week with Shasta Valley Pickleball Club. He was quick to welcome new players and to share his enthusiasm and expertise.Jerry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 44 years, Sandie Coleman Guse. He is survived by his sister Jeanie Craddock (Terry); three children, Kym Guse Grey (Tom), Kyle Guse (Jennifer), and Kurt Guse (Lorah); seven grandchildren: Elsa Grey Kudas (Igor), Nate Grey (Courtney), Taylor Coleman Higgins (Max), Garrett Kyle Guse, Theodore Wilcox (Tim), Chance Frazier and Jake Frazier; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Kudas and Leon Kudas; and numerous extended family members.A private celebration of life will be held by the family.
