Jerrie McKinzie ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home - Rockdale on Mar. 6, 2026.Born on September 2, 1952, in Isleta (El Paso), Texas, Jerrie entered the world as a blessing to her parents, Alva Willis "Bill" Jones and Hettie Mae Jones. After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, she went home to be with Jesus on March 5, 2026, surrounded by love in her home in Black Jack (Rockdale), Texas.Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, with her husband, Pastor Ellis McKinzie, officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Friday, March 13, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.Jerrie's story with Ellis McKinzie began the way the sweetest love stories often do-two young teenagers in junior high. They dated all through high school, growing up together, and on January 29, 1971, they promised each other forever. That promise remained strong for more than five decades. She was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers, Robbie Jones, Jimmy Jones, and Kenneth Jones. She leaves behind the family she cherished with her whole heart: her devoted husband, Ellis; her son, Chris McKinzie and his wife, Paige; her daughter, Carrie and her husband, Daniel Massar; and her four grandsons-Cameron McKinzie, Lucas McKinzie, Micah McKinzie, and Bryton Massar-who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her nieces, Cindy Jones Diaz and Robyn Jones Deacon, whom she dearly loved.Jerrie's faith was the steady rhythm of her life. She loved the Lord deeply, and that love shaped her marriage, her home, and the way she cared for others. She was a loving and faithful wife and mother in countless ways. When she and Ellis first met, Ellis had not yet come to faith, but through Jerrie's influence and her encouragement to attend church, he eventually placed his trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior. When Ellis later felt called into full-time ministry, Jerrie-though initially unsure-stood by him with unwavering support. She became not only a minister's wife but a true partner in ministry, offering encouragement, hospitality, and quiet strength through every move and every new chapter God placed before them. For 23 years, Jerrie served the people of Fayette County as a deputy tax assessor/collector at the courthouse in La Grange. She was known for her kindness, her patience, and her ability to make anyone feel at ease.Jerrie also found great joy in crafting. The Lord blessed her with a remarkable talent for hand-painted pieces, especially those celebrating Christmas. Each year she lovingly displayed and sold her creations at Christmas craft fairs in La Grange.Jerrie was loved by so many because she loved so well. Her warmth, her laughter, her faith, and her steady presence will be missed more than words can express. Yet even in our grief, we rejoice, knowing she is now whole, healed, and in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. We celebrate her life, we cherish her memory, and we look forward to the day we will be reunited with her again. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial donations may be made to:Black Jack Baptist Church7870 County Road 301Rockdale, Texas 76567To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
