Jerrie Darlene McKinzie

September 2, 1952 March 5, 2026

Black Jack, TX

Jerrie McKinzie was born on September 2, 1952, in Isleta, Texas, to Alva Willis “Bill” Jones and Hettie Mae Jones. She passed away on March 5, 2026, at her home in Black Jack, Texas, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Her love story with Ellis McKinzie began in junior high when they were teenagers. They dated throughout high school and married on January 29, 1971, sharing more than five decades of life together. Jerrie’s deep faith in the Lord shaped their marriage and family from the beginning. She gently encouraged Ellis to attend church, leading him to place his trust in Jesus Christ. When he later felt called into full-time ministry, she stood beside him with quiet strength and unwavering support, becoming a true partner in every chapter of their shared service.

Jerrie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Pastor Ellis McKinzie; her son, Chris McKinzie, and his wife, Paige; her daughter, Carrie Massar, and her husband, Daniel; and her four cherished grandsons, Cameron, Lucas, and Micah McKinzie, and Bryton Massar. She also leaves behind her nieces, Cindy Jones Diaz and Robyn Jones Deacon, whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers, Robbie, Jimmy, and Kenneth Jones.

For 23 years, Jerrie served the people of Fayette County as a deputy tax assessor-collector at the courthouse in La Grange, where her kindness and patience touched many. She also found great joy in her artistic talent, creating beautiful hand-painted pieces, especially Christmas-themed works that she lovingly displayed and sold at craft fairs. Her warmth, laughter, steady faith, and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
