October 18, 1942— March 8, 2026
Michigan, ND
Jerome Paul Severson, 83, of Michigan, ND, passed away on March 8, 2026, at the Aneta Parkview Center in Aneta, ND, following a battle with cancer.
Born on October 18, 1942, in McVille, ND, to Paul and Alma (Christianson) Severson, Jerome grew up on the family farm near a one-room schoolhouse. After completing elementary school, he worked alongside his father raising wheat, corn, barley, and livestock. In his younger years he spent time in Minneapolis working as a custodian at a nursing home, where his lifelong appreciation for cleanliness and order took root. He eventually returned to the family farm, which his sister Jeanne and brother-in-law Alfred Polasky purchased in 1973 and converted to a dairy operation. Jerome milked twice daily for many years while also working at Britannia in McVille, Brua Bees in McVille, and Stenberg Septic in Lakota. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and caretaker of animals, known as a remarkably accurate shot. In his later years, when his health limited his activity, he found quiet pleasure in word search puzzles, coloring, drawing, playing cards, and sharing memories.
Jerome never married, yet he loved all of his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He spent the final four years of his life living on the same farm where he was raised, under the devoted care of his niece Kathy (Polasky) Breckheimer.
He is survived by his younger brother, James (Jim) Severson of Ray, ND, along with many nieces, nephews, and their children. Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Alma Severson; his brother Paul Jr., who died at childbirth; his sister Joyce and brother-in-law Ernest Halseth; and his sister Jeanne and brother-in-law Alfred Polasky.
