Jerome C. Franciski, 77, of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at his residence. Born on April 4, 1948 to Chester and Irene (Chiluski) Franciski, he was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale community and a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1966.

Following high school, Jerome served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and remained a proud member of the American Legion, Post 168. He dedicated 37 years to the Hammond Police Department, retiring as a sergeant, and later served as bailiff to the Hammond City Court for 14 years. He was past president of the Hammond F.O.P. Lodge 51 and belonged to the Roosevelt Club, American Slovak Club, and F&AM Lodge 569. He also owned and operated Jerome C’s Tavern. An avid fisherman who loved the Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks, and Bears, he enjoyed occasional trips to the casino.

Above all, Jerome was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Sandra (nee Kowalczyk); his children, Jeff (Cris) Franciski, Elaine (Bobby) Stephan, Michelle (Sean) Asbridge, and Jennifer (Mark) Koval; his grandchildren, Andrea, Landon, Laylah, and Paige; his siblings, Michele (late Dan) Mach, Thomas (Pammy) Franciski, and the late Timothy (Diane) Franciski; and many dear nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
