Jennette "Gay" Cunningham

Jennette "Gay" Cunningham

September 26, 1937 March 11, 2026

Mount Sterling, KY

Jennette Gay Cunningham, age 88 of Mount Sterling, passed away on March 11, 2026. She was born on September 26, 1937 in Owingsville, Kentucky to the late Harold D. Reynolds and Lorena Steele Reynolds.

Small in stature but mighty in spirit, Jennette was the devoted wife of Hall of Fame coach Julian Rees Cunningham. She possessed a deep knowledge and passion for basketball, attending more than 1,500 games over the years to cheer for her husband, son, daughter, and grandchildren. She cherished conversations about the game and reunions with former players.

Jennette found equal joy in the world of horses. She loved attending shows and watching her family compete, proudly recognizing a fine road horse or pony and celebrating every blue ribbon they brought home. Always put-together, she was known for never leaving the house without her lipstick and blush, a small detail that captured her unique personality. Those who sat with her over a glass of her famous sweet tea will remember the simple, heartfelt visits that created lasting memories.

Above all, Jennette loved her family with a loyal and generous heart. She supported and encouraged them in every endeavor, and that steadfast love remains with all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Rees Cunningham; a daughter, Rebecca Kelley; a brother, HD Reynolds; and her parents.

She is survived by her son, Les R. Cunningham and his wife, Renee of Mt. Sterling; two daughters, Julie Gomes and her husband, Joe of Mt. Sterling, and Susan Cunningham of Jeffersonville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Bryce Gomes (Tricia Anderson), Brett Kelley (Brandi), Haley Ogden (Garrett), Brian Miller (Sarah), and Alan Mark Miller; and seven great-grandchildren, Vivienne Miller, Kyrstin Alderman, Trey Kelley, Jax Kelley, Gatlin Ogden, Eliot Miller, and Maddie May Miller.
