He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Mabel Heitland (Taylor); his sister Dawn Stoltenberg; and his in-laws, James and Ruth O'Donnell. He is survived by: his father Edwin "Bud" Dale; his wife Sue Heitland of Oelwein; and his children, Matthew Heitland (Jennifer) of Bainbridge Island, WA and Jennifer McCready (David) of Waterloo, IA..

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, March 13th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 13th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Transco Event Center (137 S Frederick Ave, Oelwein, IA 50662).
