Jeffrey Edward Guth

Jeffrey Edward Guth, known to all as Jeff, age 64 of Sparta, passed away on March 11, 2026 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born on August 28, 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Dr. James Edward and Yvonne Clair Dickson Guth, Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Tech. In 1986 he began his career in law enforcement with the Franklin Police Department. He returned to Sparta in 1992 to join the Sparta Police Department, where he advanced to Chief of Police and served until his retirement in 2019. A longtime active member of Sparta First United Methodist Church, Jeff also found great joy in baseball and spent many years coaching Little League.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy Guth; son James Guth and wife Kelcey; daughter Stephanie Guth Eubanks and husband Stephen; grandchildren Grant Guth and Everly Guth, who knew him as Pappy; brother Gerald Guth and wife Ramona; niece Ashlee Nebel and husband Jeff; and nephew Kyle Guth.
