Jeffrey Earl Hanssen

Jeffrey Earl Hanssen, DVM, 71, of Greenfield, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Brandywine - Brickyard Healthcare Center. Born on May 23, 1954, in Evansville, Indiana, Jeff overcame a birth defect in his hands through multiple surgeries at Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis, an experience that ultimately inspired him to become a dedicated veterinarian.

He graduated from Memorial High School in Evansville, Indiana State University-Evansville, and Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. For forty years, he owned and operated Westwood Veterinary Clinic, where he cared for the pets of Greenfield and their owners with skill and compassion. Jeff found great joy in the outdoors, hiking in state parks, birding, and collecting rocks. He was an avid reader who treasured his extensive book collection. Deeply committed to his community, he volunteered with 4-H Vet Sciences and remained actively involved with the Hancock County Humane Society throughout his life. Known for his warm, gregarious nature, Jeff was genuinely loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving spouse of 38 years, Brenda (Rodewald) Hanssen, and their children, Kathryn Rose (Steven) Williamson and Ian William Hanssen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrille William and Doris Jean Hanssen. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Brandywine-Brickyard Healthcare Facility for their compassionate care.
