September 13, 1942— March 13, 2026
Dover, NH
Jeanne Richard McCann of Dover, New Hampshire, born September 13, 1942, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at St. Ann’s Nursing Home on March 13, 2026, at the age of 83.
Born and raised in Dover, Jeanne lived most of her life there, with a period of 25 years spent in Barrington. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert McCann, her parents Lucia and Maurice Richard, and her siblings Donald Richard, Eddie Richard, Maurice Richard, and Marlene Lavault. She is survived by her brother Joseph Richard of Barrington, her close cousin Trudy Grant of Somersworth, and her sister-in-law Anna Swanson of Rye.
Jeanne leaves behind her children, Jennifer Brown and her husband Tommy of Somers, Connecticut, Michael McCann and his wife Lyn of Eliot, Maine, and Dennis McCann and his fiancée Kim Gates of Rochester, New Hampshire. She lived for her grandchildren: Tyler, Jack, Lindsay, Jordan, Hunter, Noah, Charlie, Michael, Tanner, Alexis, Noah, Sage, and Kyle. She especially cherished Christmas celebrations with all of them at the Barrington house, where she delighted in giving them gifts.
A proud graduate of Dover High School, class of 1960, Jeanne had once spent time in the convent with plans to become a nun. Later in life she was an active member of the Emblem Club in Dover, which allowed her to travel to places including Hawaii and Georgia. She worked for many years in data entry at Liberty Mutual, but many knew her best as the Avon Lady, a role that combined her love of conversation, people, and shopping. She treasured her longtime friendships with a close group of girlfriends, many of whom she had known since grammar school, and looked forward to their monthly lunches filled with laughter. She was a devoted supporter of her children and grandchildren at sporting events and concerts, and she was rarely seen without something in her favorite color, purple.
Though Alzheimer’s and dementia marked her later years, Jeanne’s deep devotion to God, the Catholic Church, and her family remained a source of comfort. The disease may have changed her outward expression, but it never altered the kindness and caring that defined her. Her warm smile and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
