Helena, MT
Jeanne Pyfer, born Jeanne Pouliot on April 14, 1949, in Bozeman, Montana, passed peacefully at her home on March 8, 2026, after a two-year battle with cancer. The fifth of eleven children born to George and Mary Pouliot, she arrived just minutes before her twin sister Joan, with whom she shared an inseparable bond from their earliest days. The family moved to Helena when Jeanne was three, and it was there that she spent the majority of her life.
A graduate of Helena Catholic Central in 1967, Jeanne went on to earn a degree in education from the University of Montana. She met the love of her life, Bob Pyfer, during high school, and the two married on September 5, 1970, at the Cathedral of St. Helena. They shared 55 devoted years together. Jeanne taught fourth grade at Hellgate Elementary before becoming a stay-at-home mother to their daughters, Nicole and Lora, born in 1976 and 1978. She later ran an in-home daycare and returned to teaching for nearly twenty years as a first-grade teacher at Kessler Elementary, where she formed many lasting friendships. In 2006 she retired to care for her grandsons, fully retiring with Bob in 2011 to focus on travel, recreation, and their growing family.
Family was the center of Jeanne’s world. She was a constant source of unconditional love and support for her daughters, never missing a school event, recital, or game. Her daughters considered her their best friend and first call in every season of life. She shared a special, joyful bond with her six grandchildren, delighting in singing, dancing, reading, playing cards, and simply being with them. She remained their biggest fan through every game, performance, and milestone.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Pouliot, her brother Dan, and her sister Mary. She is survived by her husband Bob; daughters Nicole (Jay) Lindgren of Helena and Lora LoDuca of Billings; grandchildren Jaret, Colton, and Tizer Lindgren, and Angelina, Joey, and Gianna LoDuca; and her siblings Tom (Shirley) Pouliot, Jerry (Mary) Pouliot, Joanie Miller, Linda Pouliot, Patti Scott, Pam Buckman, Elizabeth Pouliot, and Coni (Chris) Wendling, along with many extended family members and friends. Her deep love continues to live on in all who knew her.
