HOLDEN - Jeanne C. (LaPrade) Garvey, 93, beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Garvey, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, where she received exceptional and compassionate care.
Born and raised in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Cecile (Comtois) LaPrade.
Jeanne was a graduate of Ascension High School in Worcester. She went on to enjoy a long career as a financial administrator at St. John's High School, retiring after 38 years of dedicated service.
She was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Mary's Church. In her younger years, Jeanne loved traveling and dancing with her beloved husband, Joe, and sharing countless joyful moments with friends and family. Some of her happiest times were spent at their summer home in Rhode Island near Scarborough Beach. Jeanne loved playing cards, especially a lively game of Pitch, and those who played with her knew she played to win - and often did. She found great joy in attending the many games, performances, and special events of her grandchildren, proudly cheering them on every chance she had. For the past 30 years, Jeanne made her home with her daughter, Janice and family, where she was lovingly cared for and surrounded by laughter and the comfort of home.
Jeanne will be lovingly missed and remembered by her daughter, Janice Foley and her husband, Brian, of Holden; her two sons, Joseph Garvey and his wife, Judy, of West Virginia, and Jim Garvey and his wife, Sue, of Rhode Island; her brother, David LaPrade and his wife, Chris, of Sterling; and her nine grandchildren: Kristy Garvey, Kelly Kulla, Kasey Marino, Tara King, Jimmy Garvey, Joey Garvey, Katie Brennan, Michael Foley, and Jenny Perron. She also leaves twelve great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved with all her heart.
In addition to her husband, Joseph, she was predeceased by her sister, Anne Tortorello, and her brother, John LaPrade. Jeanne was also predeceased by many of her dear friends, whom she cared for deeply and whose friendships meant so much to her throughout her life.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster Street, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's High School Scholarship Fund, 378 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, or to Boston's Children's Hospital.
