Somonauk, IL
Jeanene K. Wasson, 63, of Somonauk, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 8, 2026. Born on August 19, 1962, in Sandwich, Illinois, to John and Joan (Hauser) Wasson, she was raised in Somonauk and graduated from Somonauk High School in 1980. Jeanene spent her entire career with MetLife, beginning in the typing pool and celebrating 45 remarkable years with the company just weeks before her passing. She brought laughter, warmth, and patience to the workplace, always ready to lend a hand and support her colleagues with quiet generosity.
A lifelong giver, Jeanene regularly donated blood to help strangers she would never meet. She held a deep love for animals of all kinds, caring for many beloved dogs, cats, rabbits, and chinchillas over the years while also tending to the wildlife that visited her home with food, water, and shelter. She had a special gift for remembering small details about the people she cared about and often shared simple joys, such as photos of visiting raccoons or her inflatable decorations, to bring smiles to their faces.
Jeanene was known for her gentle quirks, her sharp sense of humor, and her talent for sarcasm that could lighten even the hardest days. She found pleasure in gardening, sewing, crocheting, and other crafts, and she cherished contemporary Christian music. Above all, she loved her Lord and Savior and lived her faith by teaching Sunday School to toddlers at her church for many years, always seeking to reflect His light through kindness and service. She often shared fond stories of her childhood, including lively times on the backyard rollercoaster with cousins and neighbors.
Jeanene is survived by her mother, Joan M. Wasson; her brother, Jeff (Katie) Wasson; her niece, J. Wasson; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, John W. Wasson. Those who knew and loved her will always remember her kindness, mentorship, humor, and genuine love for life.
