Jean McKie ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Paulk Funeral Home - Fitzgerald on Mar. 17, 2026.Jean Streat McKie, 72, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, March 16, 2026, at her residence.Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Meeks Cemetery in Nicholls, Georgia. The family will receive friends from, 6 PM until 8 PM, Wednesday evening at the funeral home.Ms. McKie was born February 25, 1954, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Daniel Fennessee & Pearl Johnson Streat. She graduated with an associate's degree in nursing from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College while raising her small children. She held numerous nursing roles throughout the area during her 40-year career including Tift Regional Medical Center, Life Care Center of Fitzgerald, Wilcox State Prison and over 12 years as the Director of Nursing for Fitzgerald Nursing Home. Her passion was caring for the elderly, while working with some of the most exceptional nurses throughout her career. Ms. McKie was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.She is survived by her sons: John William Dyal (Jennifer) of Vero Beach, Florida, David Keegan McKie of Fitzgerald and James McKie (Janie) of Metter; grandchildren: Colten, Kayla, Emma, Brayden, Braelyn and Everett; brothers: Johnny William Streat Sr. and Gary Streat. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin McKie, a brother, Jimmy Dale Streat and a sister, Mureen Streat Abbott.Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, is in charge of arrangements.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
