Meridian, MS

Mrs. Jean Miller, age 85, of Meridian, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

A talented seamstress for more than 65 years, Jean shared her gift with family and friends alike. She worked for many years at the Liberty Shop in Meridian before retiring, yet continued sewing at home, creating pillows, comforters, and most of her daughters’ clothing. She also found great joy in cooking for her family, especially her delicious fudge and famous caramel cake that brought everyone together.

One of her favorite pastimes was riding through the countryside on a motorcycle with her husband, Sonny. She often recounted with delight the story of a double date with Elvis Presley before he became famous, a tale that never failed to bring smiles and laughter. While she cherished her daughters, her grandchildren held a particularly special place in her heart. They lovingly called her “Nanny Jean,” and she encouraged them always to work hard, follow their dreams, and make something meaningful of their lives.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo Robinson (Randy) and Tonya Pagels (Robert); grandchildren, Crystal Bass (Anthony), Summer Alexander (Jason), Ashly Ballard, and Matthew Pagels (Leah); twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mike Hatcher and Billy Hatcher (Jerri); two sisters, Jo Ellen Martin (Jack) and Lee Ann Poynter (Charlie); and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. “Sonny” Miller, and one grandson, Corey Steil.
