Jean McCarroll Lurry

October 12, 1935 March 7, 2026

Slidell, LA

Jean McCarroll Lurry was born on October 12, 1935, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at her home in Slidell, Louisiana, where she lived with her family.

Known affectionately as “Granma,” Jean cherished her antique business, through which she formed many lasting friendships. Above all, she found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, both young and old, her friends, and her beloved cat, Smitty. She brought love, joy, and laughter into the lives of all who knew her and will be deeply missed while forever remembered in their hearts. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and that through Him they will one day be reunited.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter David Lurry III; her father, Eugene Mixon McCarroll; her mother, Gladys Lolita Gelpi; and her sister, Gladys McCarroll McIntosh.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Ann Lurry and Marjorie Lurry Scholtens; her son-in-law, John Lee Scholtens, Jr.; her grandchildren, Edgar Burton Kemp V, Stephanie Kemp DeForrest (George), John Lurry Scholtens (Michele), Richard Taylor Scholtens, Zelleigh Scholtens Mason (Nathan), and Ashley Jean Scholtens; and her great-grandchildren, George Farold Deforrest, Avery Jean Scholtens, Brinley Marie Scholtens, Emma Riley Mason, Eli Holt Mason, Nolan John Mason, and Caroline Louise Mason. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia McCarroll Wynn.
