Preserve forever →Jean M. "Mitchell" Edwards
September 26, 1926— March 14, 2026
Jefferson Township, PA
Jean M. Edwards, of Jefferson Township, passed away after a long and remarkable life. She was born on September 26, 1926, in Sunderland, England, to Florence Groom Mitchell and Daniel P. Mitchell, and came to the United States with her family in 1929.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willard G. Edwards in 1989, her brother Robert Mitchell, and her son Daniel Edwards in 2024. She is survived by her sons Christopher Edwards of Jefferson Township and his girlfriend Donna Evans, Scott Edwards and his wife Patricia of Dunmore, and Gordon Edwards and his wife Lori of Harding, as well as her daughter-in-law Alita Edwards. She was a proud grandmother to Daniel Edwards Jr. and wife Bonnie, Heather Meagher and husband Tim, Samuel Edwards and wife Jaime, Abigail Cummings and husband Raymond, Christian Edwards, Jessica Birmingham and husband Stephen, Adam Edwards, and Lydia Edwards, and she was blessed with eleven great-grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy.
After graduating from Dickson City High School, Jean participated in the Globe Store Cadet training program and worked at The Globe Store. She later attended a program at Moses Taylor Hospital to learn shorthand and dictation, and worked there taking dictation for doctors. An excellent typist, she always dreamed of becoming a court stenographer. Originally a city girl from Dickson City, she reluctantly moved to what she once called “the country,” but over time embraced rural life and became a true country girl. She developed a deep love for nature, animals, birds, and especially dogs. She cherished her flowers and garden, enjoyed walking around the ponds on her property, picked blueberries from her patch, learned to can vegetables, and became a renowned pie baker whose homemade pies were treasured by family and friends.
Together with her husband Willard, Jean operated a luncheonette on Route 348 in Mount Cobb, where people came from near and far for her homemade pies and famous Texas wiener sauce. Later, she helped develop Jefferson Heights, Happy Acres, Elmdale Estates, and G&S Carwashes, leaving a lasting mark on the community. Jean was a strong and determined woman with remarkable willpower who gave her family love, guidance, wisdom, and many memorable sayings and bits of advice throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. Her strength, resilience, and love will live on through the generations she shaped and inspired.
