She grew up in Salem and attended South Salem High School, where she took part in campus activities and joined Future Teachers of America.Jean continued her education at Oregon State University in Corvallis and became a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She was active on campus and earned recognition from her peers. She was selected as a Betty Coed finalist, honored as a Daughter of Minerva, and served as chair of the Memorial Union Talent Committee. Friends and classmates remember her for her kindness, leadership, poise, and grace.After graduating, Jean began her teaching career in Contra Costa County, California. She later taught at Valley Vista Elementary School in Petaluma. Jean was a patient, kind, and encouraging teacher. She is fondly remembered by her students.Jean also worked in an administrative role with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. She assisted with conference registration, event planning, member services, and did the work behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. Jean got things done.Her home on the golf course was a joyful and comfortable place to gather. Jean hosted holidays like Thanksgiving, 4th of July and many birthdays, including a memorable surprise 30th birthday party. Even the many smaller get-togethers were special occasions filled with laughter. It was a home where grandchildren played, stories were told, meals were shared, and everyone felt welcome.Beyond work and family, Jean enjoyed gardening and loved reading. She had a deep affection for the pets she lovingly cared for and was a true friend to her neighbors and to the many friendships she nurtured over the years. Jean found meaning and contentment in the simple pleasures of everyday life.Jean is survived by her daughter, Karen (Greg) Santos, her sons, Doug (Jenny) Williams and Michael (Patti) Williams, and her treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren. They brought her immense pride and joy. She is also survived by her siblings Martha Griggs and Doug (Suzy) Minto whom she loved deeply. She will be remembered for her intelligence, wit, love, kindness, gentleness, warmth, perseverance, not to mention her chili relleno casserole and famous cheese ball! She was always willing and available to share her quiet strength to support her loved ones in need. Jean was a blessing.Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with her Savior.
