Jean Elizabeth Maier

Jean Elizabeth Maier, 89 of Folly Beach, South Carolina passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026.

Born on January 25, 1937, in Roanoke, VA. Jean was a daughter of the late Ruth Downey (Adams) Hopkins and Chris Hopkins.

Jean spent her career of 30 years with the Federal Government highlighted with several years in the Pentagon, the Military Traffic Management Command and retiring after five years at the Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Georgia.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Chris Thomas Hopkins and Ruth Downey (Adams) Hopkins.

Jean is survived by her husband of 36 years, Nelson Henry Maier, Jr; stepchildren Lea Tatum (David), Mark Maier (Tricia), and Amanda Maier, grandchildren Henry Thomas Tatum, Ashley Elizabeth Tatum, Nicholas Nelson Maier, and Benjamin Joseph Maier.

A Memorial Service will take place on Monday, March 30, 2026 at 1:30pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
