Jean Mitchell ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory Oxon Hill on Mar. 6, 2026.Jean Ann Mitchell, 83, of Annapolis, Maryland and a resident of Siesta Key, Florida for over 30 years, passed away on March 6, 2026 in Annapolis from complications from a fall. Born on November 22, 1942, Jean received a Doctorate in Education and had an established career as an elementary school principal. She was 26 years old when she became a principal, the youngest principal in Prince George's County at the time. In her spare time, she enjoyed art, reading, movies, travel, animals, and helping others. Her favorite saying was "wag more, bark less". She made many buttons over time and passed them out to strangers. One of her friends said, "Her free, positive, engaging spirit was like a magnet to all of us, truly unique in her combination of intellect, broad wisdom, kindness, interest in everything and everybody." She always had time for a phone call and would cut and clip articles to send to friends and family. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Mitchell. She is survived by her daughter, René (David) Butta; her grandson, David (Hannah) Butta; and her great-grandchildren, Davey and Corwin Butta. A lot of Davids in her life. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Dawne Baumgardner. Memorial contributions may be made to any animal organization of your choice, in honor of Jean's love for animals.
