Jean Ann Hoppins
August 6, 1953— March 9, 2026
Lathrop, MO
Jean Ann Hoppins, age 72, of Lathrop, Missouri, passed away on March 9, 2026, at her home. Born on August 6, 1953, in Maryville, Missouri, to James and Rose Ann (Frueh) Welch, she grew up in the Maryville, Parnell, and Sheridan area and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1971.
In 1973, Jean Ann married David Hoppins at St. Joseph's Parish in Parnell. The couple lived in Kansas City and Ferrelview before settling in Lathrop. She worked for the Lathrop School District for many years, first as a substitute teacher and later as a para, retiring in 2012 to spend more time with her family. Deeply committed to the community, she served as a cheer coach, softball coach, Girl Scout leader, and in numerous other volunteer roles supporting local youth. Even after retirement, she continued volunteering at school to help her grandchildren thrive.
Jean Ann found joy in crocheting and sewing, often selling her handmade creations at the local Farmer’s Market. Above all, she cherished time with her family. Known for her sarcastic humor and quick wit, she had a gift for leaving others with a smile. Loving, helpful, and always willing to lend a hand, she touched the lives of everyone around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings James Alan Welch, Elaine and Mike Neaderhiser, and Patrick Welch; and nephew Matthew Welch. Jean Ann is survived by her husband, David Hoppins; daughters Michelle Hetrick of Lathrop, Rosemary Hoppins-Mick (Joe) of Lathrop, and Dana Hetrick (Joey) of Gower; grandchildren Brook Wilson (Jake), Bridgett Branstietter (Dakota), Garrett Owings, Raven (Dayva) Mick, and Logan Hetrick; and great-grandchildren Jozie, Olivia and Nathan Wilson and Orion and Freyja Branstietter.
