Jean A. Crandell

Jean A. Crandell

April 10, 1944 March 11, 2026

Painted Post, NY

Jean A. Crandell, 81, of Painted Post, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on March 11, 2026. Born on April 10, 1944, in Corning, New York, to Fredrick and Rose (Yorio) Fratarcangelo, Jean was a proud first-generation Italian American who lived a life rooted in family, faith, and quiet dedication.

She graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1961 and, on June 20, 1964, married the love of her life, David Crandell. Their marriage spanned 61 devoted years. Jean began her career as a secretary at Corning Glass Works in the International Division and, through hard work and commitment, advanced to the role of administrative aide to the Vice President at Sullivan Park. She retired in 1999 after 36 years of loyal service.

Jean had a generous spirit and gave freely of her time. She volunteered with Chapter H at Corning Hospital, served many years on the board of the Corning Area Food Pantry, later becoming an honorary board member, and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels in Corning. She found joy in cake decorating, making ceramics, and tending her vegetable and flower gardens. Above all, she cherished time with her family. She loved preparing large holiday meals, especially her pre-Christmas pasta dinner for the Crandell family. She and David shared a passion for ballroom dancing, taking lessons together, competing in many events, and winning several. They also created lasting memories through travels, cruises, spring visits to North Redington Beach, Florida, and summers spent at Keuka Lake.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, David Crandell of Painted Post; her son, Robert Crandell of Hammondsport; her very close family friend, Kerry Ann Simonelli of Penn Yan, New York; her aunt, Sylvia Yorio of Corning; and many cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves behind cherished honorary family members and her beloved god-daughter, Julie Darcangelo of Ontario, New York. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Richard Fratarcangelo, and several aunts and uncles.
