JD Phipps

JD Phipps, age 89, of Hopkinsville, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, surrounded by his family at his daughter’s home. Born on December 15, 1936, in Christian County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Riley and Ival Pearl Richardson Phipps.

A lifelong member of Bellview Baptist Church, JD found his greatest joys in being a devoted father and grandfather, along with his deep passion for farming and woodworking. He worked for more than 27 years as a machinist at Mid-Continent Spring Company and later in maintenance at Bradford Square Mall until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae Grace Phipps in 2024, his sister Dorothy Phipps, and his parents. JD is survived by his son, Jeff (Melissa) Phipps of Hopkinsville; his daughters, Sheila Stagner of Hopkinsville and Susan (Skip) Cunningham of Hopkinsville; his sister, Helen (Garland) Tucker of Christian County; seven grandchildren, Mandy (Russ) Guffey, Jason (Melissa) Stagner, Lindsay (Bradley) Bardwell, Dylan (Melanie) Phipps, Wyatt Phipps, Melina (Wesley) Elverd, and Tanner (Kati) Cunningham; and twelve great-grandchildren, Chaney, Laiken, Adler, and Cannon Guffey, Jason and Carter Stagner, Brooks, Beau, and Brady Bardwell, Cohen and Beckham Phipps, and Aynslee Fincher.
