Olive Branch, MS
Jay Harper Kemp, 68, of Olive Branch, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2026. Born in Lawrence, Kansas on November 26, 1957 to the late Thomas Andrew and Evelyn (Nelms) Kemp, Jay lived a life centered on his deep devotion to family, his love of the outdoors, and the simple moments that brought people together.
Above all, he was a loving husband to his wife, Susan Rutherford Kemp. Their marriage was built on years of commitment, laughter, and unwavering support, creating a home filled with strength and cherished memories. As a father, he was incredibly proud of his children, offering guidance, encouragement, and a steady presence that shaped their lives in lasting ways.
One of his greatest joys was being a grandfather. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and everyday experiences while watching them grow. He also held a special place in his heart for his siblings, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and support.
Jay found great peace in the outdoors, particularly through hunting and fishing, activities he often enjoyed with family and friends. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his love of nature, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Rutherford Kemp; children, Chalet Kemp (Craig Kamyszek), Joshua Kemp (Simone), and Cody Kemp (Alexandra); seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and siblings, Dianne Barnack, Barbara “Babs” Moore (Jerry), Marilyn “Mari” Craddock (Bill Jr.), and Andy Kemp (Paula).
