Hitchens; great grandchildren, Leighton Hitchens and Kensley Hitchens; Sisters Lydia Segura and Connie Patino.Janie really enjoyed life; feeding the birds in the backyard of her home was a loved routine. She also was a loyal San Antonio Spurs fan and watched most of the games. Janie was always working on craft projects ranging from painting ceramic pieces, to making unique beaded bracelets and crafted crosses. She gave her craft creations to family and friends or sold them (and other items) at the local flea market, which was a loved pleasure. She loved spending time with her family; her home was the gathering place for all the family holidays.Janie worked for the city of San Antonio Parks and Recreation department for over 25 years and retired in 2002. After retiring, she became a member of the Lions Field Adult and Senior Center, where she looked forward to special events and making craft projects with other art lovers. In 2025, due to health issues, she moved to an assisted living facility where she took part in a wide variety of activities including sitting exercises and she especially was delighted with movie day and music events. The past six months with increasing health issues, she remained positive and in good spirits. Her time was spent doing word search puzzles, playing bingo, and doing arts and crafts at Live Oak Care Facility.Janie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly and always remembered. She will be in our hearts forever and her strength will give us strength in all we do. We love you, mom.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
