Janice Kay Mogensen, lovingly known as Jan, 79 of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Unity Point in Sioux City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, at Holy Cross Parish, St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City with Father Randy Schon as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Visitation, with the family present, will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church, prior to the Mass. Jan received her education through the South Sioux City, Nebraska public school system, laying the foundation for a lifetime of hard work and dedication. She was well known in her community for her years working as a waitress and cashier at several local businesses, including Pronto. These roles reflected her caring nature and welcoming smile, qualities that endeared her to many and made a lasting impression.
A woman whose heart was fullest when surrounded by family, Jan cherished time spent with her grandchildren—seven bright and lively spirits for whom she was a steadfast presence. Known for babysitting all seven grandchildren and being present at every activity, Jan’s love illuminated countless moments in their young lives. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond caregiving; she was a proud and involved grandmother whose presence was a constant source of comfort and joy.
Janice faced her later years with dignity and courage, spending the last year and a half in a nursing home after valiantly battling dementia and declining health. Her resilience during this difficult time was a testament to her enduring strength and grace.
She leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward her memory and legacy. Her devoted husband, Russ Mogensen, stood by her side through the years. Her children—Russ (Jodi) Mogensen, Brent (Carmen) Mogensen, and Danelle (Kraig) Fulton—alongside her cherished grandchildren Tyler Mogensen, Madelyn (fiancé Turner Corcoran) Mogensen, Rylee Mogensen, Conor Mogensen, Keyan Fulton, Kambrie Fulton, and Khayle Fulton, remain deeply connected to her enduring love.
Jan also shared a close bond with her twin sister, Janet (Bob) Schones, and sister Denise (Gary) Hallstrom, who held her dear throughout her life’s journey. Her parents, Vincent and Marjorie (Becker) Campbell, and her brother, Vinny Campbell, preceded her in death, leaving a place in her family’s story that is forever cherished.
Janice Kay Mogensen’s life was a quiet beacon of love and devoted service—a legacy reflected in the hearts of all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to inspire through the countless ways she touched the lives of her family and community. Though she has departed this world, the warmth of her memory remains, a cherished comfort for her family and friends who loved her so deeply.
