Janice Kay McMeans Nutt

Janice Kay McMeans Nutt

July 12, 1944 March 10, 2026

Longview, TX

Janice Kay McMeans Nutt, 81, of Longview, Texas, passed away on March 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 12, 1944, in Longview, she was the first McMeans girl born in more than a generation and was cherished by her extended family from the very beginning. Her childhood was filled with simple joys—jumping rope, playing jacks with her mother, spending time with her dolls, and gathering for warm dinners at the kitchen table with her parents and brothers. Those early experiences of love and connection shaped her deeply and became the foundation she worked to recreate for her own children and grandchildren.

Janice met Larry Nutt in 1963 at his sister’s birthday party. After he drove her home and attempted a kiss, the two married just six months later on February 28, 1964. Their marriage lasted more than sixty years. While raising their daughters, she cared for young children in her home to help support the family. She later worked at Pinewood Park Elementary as a teacher’s assistant and then as the computer lab director, devoting more than twenty years to public education. Her kindness, steady presence, and dedication earned her the affection of students and staff alike.

Above all, Janice found her greatest joy in becoming “Nana.” She hosted sleepovers, played games, cooked family favorites such as chicken and dressing and chocolate pie, attended every sporting event, band performance, and school production, and shared stories that brought both laughter and wisdom. A woman of deep faith, she taught Bible classes at church, welcomed family for Sunday meals, and lived each day with honesty, hard work, and devotion to God. She wanted to be a great Nana—and she was.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband Larry Nutt; her parents Eddie and Gladys McMeans; her brother Jerry McMeans and his wife Karen; her parents-in-law John and Juanita Nutt; her sister-in-law Diane Bower and her husband Jerry; and her son-in-law Kevin Timmons. She is survived by her daughters Amy Timmons and Robin Best and husband Joshua; her grandchildren Sara King and husband Jacob, Hunter Timmons and fiancée Selena Gonzalez and their daughter Sereniti Gonzalez, Kaylea Timmons, Joel Best and wife Alyssa and their daughter Audrey, and Jacob Best; her brother Fred McMeans and wife Vicki; her brother-in-law John Nutt Jr. and wife Merilyn; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
