Janice Carol Carlson

Janice (Jan) Carlson of Holcomb passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois. Born to Ernie and Martha (Elliot) Flick in Oregon on May 20, 1938, she graduated from Oregon High School in 1955 and from Rockford Memorial School of Nursing in 1958. On September 6, 1958, she married Gene Carlson, and together they raised three sons: Mark Carlson of Glendale, Arizona, Brett (Debi) Carlson of Chana, Illinois, and Brad Carlson of Lebanon, Missouri.

Jan enjoyed a long nursing career at Rochelle Manor, on the surgical floor at Rockford Memorial Hospital, and later as “Ask A Nurse,” a role she truly loved. She and Gene spent many happy winters in Arizona during their retirement. She found great joy in time spent with her family, reading, sewing, crocheting, and playing slot machines. Known for her warm and outgoing nature, Jan could strike up a conversation with anyone she met.

At the age of 82, she became a grandmother to Layla, who brought an extra sparkle to her life. She was also blessed with many bonus grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her beloved spoiled kitty, Ethal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, and her parents.

She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
