November 28, 1948— March 13, 2026
Wichita Falls, TX
Linda Jane “Janey” McCown of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 77.
Born in 1948, Janey spent her entire life in Wichita Falls, a city she loved and worked to beautify in countless ways. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School and attended North Texas State University in Denton. In 1969 she married the love of her life, Larry McCown. Together they raised two children, Shelly Trice of Graham and Marc McCown of Wichita Falls, who remained her greatest joy.
Faith was a quiet, steady presence throughout Janey’s life. She grew up at First Baptist Church and later became a devoted member of Floral Heights United Methodist Church, where she found lasting friendships and purpose. Though she did not grow up with much, she carried a deep determination to create a life filled with love, beauty, and meaning. She believed in lifting others up and making every place a little better than she found it.
Janey and Larry discovered a shared passion when they remodeled their first home on Dayton Street. Larry found his calling in home construction, while Janey revealed an extraordinary talent for interior design. Her creativity and generous spirit turned houses into warm, welcoming homes. She began with what people already owned and added thoughtful touches that made their spaces shine. Her work touched countless homes, nonprofit organizations, and community projects. She created displays for Tuesday Morning, owned Lifestyles, contributed for eleven years to the Faith Refuge Decorator Show Houses, and carefully arranged donated furniture at Faith Resale to help it find new homes.
A lover of antiques and a lifelong treasure hunter, Janey delighted in discovering beauty in unexpected places. Her collections of art, furniture, and accessories were especially dear to her, particularly those that filled their vacation home in Ruidoso, New Mexico, where so many cherished family memories were made.
She remained deeply involved in her community as a member of the Woman’s Forum, Junior League, and Gourmet Club, past president of the Carousel Club, and a faithful volunteer for Faith Refuge and Floral Heights United Methodist Church. In 2022 she moved to Rolling Meadows, where her warmth and hospitality quickly drew a close circle of friends who gathered often for games and good company.
Janey was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Thurzia Brown. She is survived by her devoted husband Larry; her children Marc McCown of Wichita Falls and Shelly Trice and husband David of Graham; grandchildren Loren McClymond and husband Zach, Ben Trice and wife Emily, and Claire Trice; and great-grandchildren Mabel, Warner, and William, all of whom brought her endless pride and joy.
