Janet Ojeda ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc. - Canandaigua on Mar. 16, 2026.Canandaigua – Janet (Petz) Ojeda, age 86, passed away at home after a long illness, on Friday, March 13, 2026, with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Frank H. Ojeda; two sons, Frank J. (Jenny) Ojeda and Paul (Karen) Ojeda; four grandchildren, Michael (Marie) Marino, Melissa (Ryan) Ward, Baylee Ojeda and Benjamin Ojeda; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Jack, Ava and Robby; nine siblings, Carol (Bill) McGuigan, Gail (Roger) Baetzold, Joanne LaNigra, Marilyn Petz, Paul (Mary Lynne) Petz, Kathleen (Bob) Steigerwald, Dorothy (John) Connelly, Rita (Rob) Nelson and Mary (Kevin) Wert; and many nieces and nephews.Janet was born in Batavia and was the daughter of Otto and Leona (Schum) Petz. She attended Attica schools and was a graduate of Attica Central School, class of 1957. Janet earned a bachelor's degree in education from William Smith College in Geneva. After college, she taught at Canandaigua Academy for a few years, before accepting a Fulbright Scholarship to attend American University in Lebanon. Janet traveled extensively while overseas. She returned to Canandaigua and once again taught at the Academy. Janet later took a break from teaching to raise her family. She eventually returned to Canandaigua Academy as a substitute teacher and later a full-time teacher. After teaching, Janet worked at FLCC in the Athletic Department and the Admissions Office, retiring in 2005.Janet was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Bell Choir at the church. She enjoyed reading and was a longtime volunteer at the Wood Library. Janet loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.Her memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 21, at 11am, at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Parish for St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424 or St. Mary's School, 16 Gibson St., Canandaigua, NY 14424 or the Wood Library, 134 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424.
