She grew up in South Windsor, Connecticut, the daughter of John and Lillian Kocarnik, where she formed the early values and strengths that would guide her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her older sisters, Sylvia and Evelyn. Sylvia was the mother of three children - John, Sandy, and Debra - and Janet remained connected to that side of the family throughout her life.Janet attended the University of Connecticut and later earned her bachelor's degree before spending time in Washington, D.C., where she worked in a clerical role for the federal government. It was during this period that she met the love of her life, Edwin Charles Kuehner. They married in 1955, beginning a partnership marked by devotion, steadiness, and deep affection. After marrying, Janet and Edwin made their home in Wheaton, Maryland, where they lived until 1977. They then moved to Manchester, Maryland, and later settled in Hanover, Pennsylvania, where Janet lived until 2022 and built decades of meaningful memories with her family and community. During those years, she was a member of St. David's United Church in West Manheim, where she formed close friendships with several women from the congregation. Together they enjoyed regular luncheons, fellowship, and the kind of easy companionship that enriched her days. She was the beloved wife of Edwin, with whom she raised two sons and created a home filled with music, warmth, and strong family values. Janet and Edwin shared a devoted marriage until his passing in 1997. They also loved traveling together, enjoying trips that allowed them to explore new places and spend unhurried time side by side.Janet was known for her loving heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering kindness. She lived with high morals, strong standards, and deep integrity, qualities that shaped every relationship she touched. Patient, giving, and steady, she offered comfort and support without ever seeking recognition. Her ancestry traced back to Czechoslovakia, with family roots in the Klachek line on her mother's side and the Kocarnik line on her father's side - heritage she carried with quiet pride.A woman of many talents and interests, Janet found joy in playing the piano, reading, polka dancing, and spending time with her family. She also loved crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and enjoyed stargazing and had a gentle fascination with astronomy. Music, curiosity, and simple pleasures were woven through her life, and she and Edwin shared many happy years dancing together in the local polka community, creating memories that lasted a lifetime.Janet is survived by her two sons, Tim and his wife Angie, and Larry and his wife Julie, along with six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her legacy of kindness, strength, and love. She will be remembered for her grace, her generosity, and the love she gave so freely. Her presence was a gift, and her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.Services entrusted to Going Home Cremation and Funeral Care.Read The Full ObituaryTo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
