She was born on March 14, 1947, in Barberton, Ohio, to Walter Joseph Mason and Georgiana Ruth Scudder, both originally from New Jersey.Jane grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland, where she lived for 24 years. Over the course of her life, she also lived in Germany for four years, Washington, DC for nine years, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for eight years, Greensboro, North Carolina from 1996 to 2012, and later made her home in Cornelius, North Carolina.On June 23, 1983, Jane married Jerome Paul McDonald in College Park, Maryland. Jerome was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and retired after a distinguished military career.Jane was a devoted mother to her child, Chad McDonald and step children David McDonald, and Pamela Romano, and a loving grandmother to six grandchildren. Family was central to her life, including her extended family, particularly the nine children of her sister Jean Schick, who were like brothers and sisters to her.She was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter Mason and Ronald Mason, and her sister, Jean Schick.Jane was deeply committed to education. She attended Holy Names Academy, graduating in 1965, earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Ohio Dominican College, and later received a Master's degree in Education from Catholic University. She also attended Fordham University for two summers.Her professional life was spent as a teacher, a vocation she carried out with dedication and care. Her last employer was the Archdiocese of Charlotte.A faithful Roman Catholic, Jane was a parishioner at St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville, North Carolina. Her faith was an important part of her life and community.The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30pm, on Friday, March 20, 2026 at James Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00pm, at St. Mark Catholic Church follwed by interment at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery, Cornelius.
