Jane Fowlke Overman was born on May 5, 1948, in American Fork, Utah, the third of seven children born to Ernest LeGrand and Lola Hacking Fowlke. Raised on a five-acre farm in Orem, she grew up surrounded by hard work, close family ties, and a deep love of learning. From a young age she helped with canning, cooking, gardening, and sewing, while also studying jazz, tap, ballet, piano, clarinet, and oboe, and caring tenderly for her younger siblings.
She graduated from Orem High School and LDS Seminary in May 1966, later earning a B.S. in Psychology from Brigham Young University in August 1971 after attending Southern Utah University and San Jose State. In 1971 she married Sergeant E Specialist Joseph Jon Overman, with whom she shared a spirited love of life and a particular passion for Porsches. Together they built a lasting partnership, co-founding and operating Overman Concrete Inc. for more than forty years while recently celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary.
Jane’s greatest joy was her family. She and Jon raised five children—Julie, Jessica, Jami, Brandon, and Jason—and delighted in their twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She treasured simple pleasures such as backyard barbecues, boating, swimming at the village pool, and family vacations to Bear Lake, Lake Powell, California, Hawaii, and Mexico.
Warm, devoted, and full of life, Jane will be remembered for her homemaking skills, her lively spirit, and the strong, loving family she helped create. She is survived by her husband, Jon; her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and her siblings.
