Solon, IA

Jane Elizabeth Marshall, 73, of Solon, Iowa, passed away on March 7, 2026, at the Solon Nursing Care Center after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born on January 25, 1953, in Osage, Iowa, to Keith and Annette Marshall, Jane was the third of four daughters. She shared a close bond with her sisters Sheila, Kay, and Wendy, filled with cherished stories of a joyful childhood and the mischief they created together. A graduate of Osage High School, where she served as a cheerleader and drum majorette, Jane also worked as a lifeguard and carhop at Stan’s Drive-in. She later attended Mankato State University before moving to Iowa City. In 1975, she married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Jahnel. The couple raised two children, Erin and Jeff, in North Liberty. Jane worked as a dental assistant, home health care nurse, and pharmacy technician, earning the admiration of patients, coworkers, and customers alike for her caring nature.

Jane was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who poured her heart into her family. She served as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader, Religious Education teacher, and room parent, always eager to be involved in her children’s lives. Her unwavering support and pride in Erin and Jeff were evident until the very end, and she held a special place in the hearts of their friends, her nieces, and nephews with her warmth, humor, and ability to connect with anyone. She cherished lifelong friendships built on her gift for listening and genuine interest in others. Jane embraced the role of “Granny” with boundless love when her first grandchild arrived in 2006. Though a traumatic brain injury in 2009 brought significant challenges, she remained deeply committed to her seven grandchildren, finding joy in gardening, crocheting, and playing games with them. Kind, loving, giving, funny, and feisty, Jane kept those around her smiling with her playful nicknames and spirited personality until the end.

She is survived by her children, Erin (Chad) Dyson and Jeff (Amy) Jahnel; her grandchildren, Cade, Hayden, Jace, Beckham, Ellis, Gabriel, and Abigail; her sisters, Sheila (Jerome) Fawcett and Wendy (Jim) Paulson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Annette Marshall; her sister, Kay Tetrault; and her niece, Jenifer Miller.
