Greenville, NC

Jane Baron Steele, 63, of Greenville, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2026. Born on October 1, 1962, in Lancaster, New Hampshire, she was lovingly adopted by Lucien and Helen Baron. Raised with a deep appreciation for tennis, music, and family, Jane met Greg Steele in 1986. They married in 1987 and shared nearly four decades together, raising three children and remaining actively involved in the lives of their three grandchildren.

Jane cherished time spent with her family, especially moments with her grandson Ben in Beaufort. Her unconditional love and support were evident to all, extending warmly to her beloved lab, Babs. She possessed a beautiful singing voice and found joy in performing in musicals, singing in church choirs, and playing handbells throughout her life. Jane faced breast cancer with remarkable courage on three separate occasions, earning admiration for her strength, resilience, and steadfast faith. She was known for generously supporting and encouraging others on similar journeys.

She is survived by her husband, Greg Steele; her son Matt and his wife Kirstie; her daughter Emily Scott and her husband Molick; and her son Drew and his wife Peyton. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Ben, Chris, and James Steele; her sisters Joyce McSweeney and Judy Wirtanen; her sister-in-law Cheri Stalls and her husband Lloyd; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Lucien and Helen Baron.
