Jan Martin ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Fountain Memorial Funeral Home & Cemetery on Mar. 16, 2026.A Liturgy of the Word will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA for Jan McCarthy Martin, 69, who passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA.Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of service.Inurnment will follow at later date.Deacon Robert Klingman, of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA, will officiate.Jan McCarthy Martin, was born July 21, 1956, in New Orleans, LA and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. After high school, Jan attended University of Southwestern University, presently known as University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in Lafayette, LA and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. In May of 1987, she married the love of her life, Keith John Martin. Jan was a parishioner of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA.Jan devoted her life to her work as a social worker, pouring her passion into helping children with disabilities. She cheered proudly for the Saints, enjoyed University of Louisiana at Lafayette baseball and never missed an Ice Gators hockey game. Live music and zydeco dancing brought her joy. She was both a friend and a mother, warm, welcoming and full of love. Jan treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren. Above all, she carried a deep and abiding faith in God. Family meant everything to Jan; she leaves a legacy of love and will be deeply missed.Jan is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Keith John Martin, of Lafayette, LA; her father, Dr. James Maddock McCarthy, Sr.; her son, Jude McCarthy Martin and his wife, Misty, of Lafayette, LA; her daughter, Emma Elizabeth Carline and her husband, Mark, of Lafayette, LA; her three sisters, Jennifer Steckler, of Lafayette, LA, Joan McCarthy, of Lafayette, LA and Julie McCarthy, of Baton Rouge, LA; her extended family, Kim McCarthy, of Lafayette, LA; her four grandchildren, Annabel Martin, Aiden Martin, Miles Carline and Eloise Carline and dear nieces, nephews and friends.She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Sybil LeBlanc McCarthy; her brother, Dr. James Maddock McCarthy, Jr., and her granddaughter, Madison Carline.The family wishes to thank the ICU staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Jan and her family.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jan's name to Maddie's Footprints, 234 Rue Beauregard, Suite 201, 337-534-4209, https://maddiesfootprints.org/.Online obituary and guest book may be viewed at www.fountainmemorialfuneralhome.com.Fountain Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1010 Pandora St. 337-981-7098 is in charge of arrangements.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
