Born on May 28, 1934, in Bourbon County KY, Jim lived a full and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and community.A graduate of Athens High School, Jim joined the U.S. Navy where he served for eight years. He had a successful career with Universal Leaf for 35 years and retired in 1994. After retiring, his love for carpentry led him to partner with his son-in-law Mark in renovation projects.Jim was a man of many talents and interests: He was an active member of the Lexington Lions Club for over 25 years and belonged to the Ancient Age Street Rods. He was a prolific storyteller who often captivated those around him. As a devoted fan of UK sports, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Cats. He doted on many dogs throughout his life and leaves behind Maddie, who will miss his belly-rubs and treats. His adventurous spirit led him to travel, including trips to U.S.S. Macon reunions. One of his greatest joys was showing off his 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible, which he fondly referred to as "the only car I ever loved."Jim was a devoted member of South Elkhorn Baptist Church. His spirituality guided his life and relationships, shaping him into the loving husband, father, and friend that those around him cherished deeply.He was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph Wagoner and Lillian Rose Wagoner; his first wife Connie Moore Wagoner; his brother Julian Thomas "Tommy" and sister-in-law Mildred Wagoner; and Eugene "Tuck" Blackford, his dear friend of 70 years.He is survived by his beloved wife Londa Lewis Wolanin Wagoner; his only daughter Tammy Wagoner McKinley (Mark) and children through marriage who were loved as his own: Sheri Evans Depp (Dwayne); Donald Wade Evans; Melinda Jeanne Wolanin (Jason Peoples); and grandchildren Waverly Tess Evans, Gillian Leah Evans, Dwayne Forrest Depp II, William Andrew Peoples, and Alexander James Peoples.Jim's legacy lives on through those he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.His visitation will be March 16, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm followed by his funeral from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at South Elkhorn Baptist Church, 4867 Rosalie Road, Lexington, KY 40510. Entombment will be at Berea Cemetery, Berea, KY. Pallbearers will be Mark D. McKinley, Donald W. Evans, Dwayne F. Depp, Jason E. Peoples, Dwayne F. Depp II, and William A. Peoples.The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to South Elkhorn Baptist Church at the address above or Mt Zion Baptist Church, 601 Bingham Wilson Road, Tyner, KY 40486.
