Dayton, OH

James "Jimmie" Wilbert Barton, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on March 15, 2026, in Trotwood, OH, leaving behind a legacy of passion, warmth, and cherished memories. Born on May 5, 1966, Jimmie lived a life marked by his boundless enthusiasm, vibrant spirit, and kindness touching the hearts of all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Trotwood Madison High School in 1984, Jimmie was a self-taught musician who mastered the guitar, piano, keyboard, and various sound machines. His deep love for music was evident not only in his talent but also in his encyclopedic knowledge of musical and audio trivia. Friends and co-workers alike admired him for this unique gift, which added a special melody to the rhythms of their everyday lives.

Jimmie’s career was a testament to his dedication and charm. He devoted over a decade to Lowes, where he skillfully served customers in Lumber, Lawn, and Garden departments. Prior to this, he spent 17 years working in Electronics at Walmart, earning the respect and affection of colleagues and customers with his friendly nature and helpful attitude.

Outside of work, Jimmie was an ardent fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals. Alongside sports, he found joy in video games and classic arcade pinball machines, always embracing life’s thrills—most notably as a roller coaster enthusiast. Jimmie’s playful side was evident in his fondness for Peppa Pig cartoons, a simple pleasure that brought him happiness and delight.

He was lovingly called “Jimmie” by all who knew him, a nickname that embodied his approachable and warm personality. He was a beloved member of his community, known for his infectious energy and kind heart.

Jimmie’s family was central to his life. He is survived by his mother, Bobbie Barton; his siblings, William L. Barton, Jr., and Cheryl (Titus) Morrow; and his precious nieces and nephew: Jasmine, India, Madison, Maya, Marina “MiMi,” Kaylin, Braelynn, Kendall, Journiee, and Christopher. He is also survived by aunts, Korey Shaw and Patricia Young. Jimmie was also surrounded in love by a host of cousins, relatives, dear friends, and co-workers who will forever hold Jimmie in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his father, William L. Barton, Sr.; grandparents Laura and Leonard Barton, Otis and Nevada Gray; as well as an aunt, Sarah Taylor and uncles Jim, Steve, and Lenny Barton.

The community is invited to honor Jimmie’s memory on March 27, 2026, beginning with visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering, located at 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH 45439. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at the funeral home. Burial will follow at West Memory Gardens, 6722 Hemple Road, Moraine, OH 45439.

Jimmie leaves behind a melody of love, laughter, and music that will resonate in the lives of his family, friends, and community for years to come. His spirit, much like the notes he played so beautifully, will continue to inspire and comfort all who had the privilege to know him.
