Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) James Whitfield "Whit" Kidd, age 72, passed away on March 2, 2026, at Harmony Care in Floresville, Texas, following a brief illness.
Born in New Albany, Mississippi, to the late Herbert and Louise Watson Kidd, Whit enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 19. He served with honor and dedication for 32 years, earning the respect of the soldiers under his command through his strong leadership and unwavering commitment to duty. He retired in 2004 with the rank of Command Sergeant Major.
After leaving the Army, Whit found deep satisfaction in the company of family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf, tending to his yard and pool, watching sports, and following his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He took special pride in staying close to his family and in caring for his dog, Myah, and his cat, Missy.
Whit was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Delaine, Steve, Roger, and Paul Kidd. He is survived by his daughter, Amna Majors (Mark); his granddaughter, Ashley Majors; his brothers Jerry Kidd (Brenda), Herbert Kidd, Johnny Kidd (Sandra), Ricky Kidd, and Bobby Kidd; his sisters Elsie Williams (Phillip) and Ellen Frazier (Thomas); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He will be remembered for his patriotism, integrity, and the quiet strength he showed in every role he filled.
