James Warren Bowling
September 30, 1961— March 6, 2026
Louisville, KY
James “Jim” Warren Bowling, 64, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on March 6, 2026, in Louisville. Born on September 30, 1961, in Louisville to Warren Harding Bowling and Mary Dorothy Bowling, Jim graduated from Western High School in 1979. He built a distinguished 40-year career as an electrician with IBEW Local 369, where his humor, reliability, and easy camaraderie earned him lasting friendships among his coworkers.
Jim shared a deep and joyful life with his wife of 33 years, Cindy. Together they gathered with friends for spirited games of pool that reflected their competitive natures and love of the game. An avid horse racing enthusiast, he took particular pride in correctly picking the winner of the 2018 Kentucky Derby. Jim was also a dedicated car enthusiast who cherished his 2002 convertible Corvette and enjoyed showing it at local car events.
Above all, Jim treasured time with his grandchildren. He delighted in racing slot cars with them—often “Jimmy rigging” them for extra speed—swimming together, and building things with and for them, always eager to share his creativity and skills. At home he found contentment in listening to 80s rock and roll, watching classic westerns, and loyally cheering for his beloved Kentucky Wildcats, rarely missing a football game.
Jim will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his sense of humor, his devotion to family, and the quiet joy he found in life’s everyday moments. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Harding Bowling and Mary Dorothy French Bowling, and his sister, Kathy Reis. He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Bowling; children, Kristy Kirk, Rachel Bowling (Patrick), and Ryan Bowling; grandchildren, Olivia Kirk, Jaley Crawford, and Blayne Mustard; sisters, Cindy Saling, Karen Lichtefeld, and Lisa Schonburg; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and a wide circle of extended family and close friends.
