Louisville, NE

James William Colbert, age 85 of Louisville, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026 at Nye Summit in Louisville. Born on April 27, 1940 in Wabash, Nebraska to Lloyd and Pauline (Stubbendeck) Colbert, Jim grew up in Weeping Water and graduated from Weeping Water High School in 1957. He earned a football scholarship to the University of Nebraska and later continued his studies at Wayne State College before attending mortuary school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Jim devoted his career to the funeral industry, working in homes in Falls City, Lincoln, and Auburn before founding the Colbert Funeral Home in Weeping Water. He served local families with compassion and dignity until the early 1990s. In October 1961, he married Mary Jo Reihart at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Together they raised two daughters, Cami Nutter and Mary Beth Colbert, before later divorcing. Jim remained a lifelong supporter of Nebraska football and enjoyed all sports. He also looked forward each year to his trips to Las Vegas, where he happily gambled and played Keno.

He is survived by his daughters, Cami Nutter of Lago Vista, Texas and Mary Beth Colbert of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren Ethan (Jennifer) Nutter, Calli (Khalad) Nutter, Mariah Colbert, and Justin Colbert; and great-grandson Samir. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jean Colbert of Plattsmouth and her children Scott (Shari) Colbert, Kelly Pellan, and Carrie (Mike) Beam, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Pauline Colbert, his twin brother Robert Colbert, and his nephew Joshua Colbert.
