James Stewart "Jimmy" Perdue Sr.

1935 — 2026

Augusta, GA

Mr. Jimmy Perdue, Sr., 90, of Martinez, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Born on June 30, 1935, Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Augusta and a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, an experience he spoke of often and with great pride throughout his life.

Jimmy retired in 1997 from International Paper after 36 years of dedicated service in powerhouse administration. He served for many years on the Board of Directors of Augusta Industrial Federal Credit Union and was a longtime member of the American Legion, Post 71. A passionate golfer, he cherished the rare opportunity to play Augusta National Golf Club 25 times and spent many years as a scorekeeper at The Masters Tournament, most often stationed at the iconic 13th hole.

Known for his warm personality and natural gift for storytelling, Jimmy never met a stranger. He loved sharing tales of his Air Force days, his golf experiences, and above all, his family. His friendly spirit and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of many years, Betty Jean Perdue; his children, James “Jim” Stewart Perdue, Jr. and Julie Appleton (Tim); his granddaughters, Kendall Appleton and Kaitlyn Appleton; his sister, Shelby P. Beasley (Doug); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
