James Hamlin Sloan, a cherished member of the Milan community, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Milan, Tennessee, on June 22, 1936, he was the beloved son of the late James W. and Lucille Scroggins Sloan. A graduate of Milan High School’s class of 1954, James spent many dedicated years at the Milan Arsenal before retiring. In his later years, he worked as a funeral assistant for Bodkin Funeral Home.
He was a devoted husband to his wife of 52 years, Jane Sloan, and a loving father to his daughters, Elicia Davenport and Leigh Ann Bray, who is married to Barry. James took great joy in his role as grandfather to Morgan Bray, Luke Bray (married to Kallie), and Chase Davenport (married to Daniela). He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Scarlette Blankenship and Millie Bray.
An active member of the Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church, James lived a life guided by faith, community, and quiet service. He was an avid fisherman who found peace by the water and generously shared his time, stories, and knowledge with family and friends. Those who knew him will remember his warm sense of humor, his kindness, and his selfless devotion to the happiness and wellbeing of others.
